Where To Get Thanksgiving Pies in LA

It’s that time of year I like to call Pie Season. We enjoy it for Thanksgiving and it finds it’s way into our December holiday feasts as well, but if you’re in the city of angels wheredo you find the perfect pie for your holiday celebration? Well I’m here to help with five pies that go beyond the classic and traditional pumpkin, apple, and pecan and take things up a notch. These pies are all special in their own way with incredible flavor and a unique spin on the tried and true Thanksgiving pies.  You can also watch me share these pies live on the KTLA Morning News in the clip below. Lisa Olin & Pastry Chef Elizabeth Belkind’s acclaimed LA-based bakery known for their whimsical, updated takes on nostalgic childhood snack treats (think Ding Dongs, Hos Hos, and the like), the duo will offer cakes, pies, mini layer cakes, pastries, and said snack treats — along with new breakfast and lunch items unique to the new location (like a housemade, Chocolate Hazelnut Babka French Toast). But more importantly they make some of the BEST pies in Los Angeles. Why not opt for something fun like that Butterscotch Pudding Pie instead of the old classic flavors. For more than 10 years, Los Feliz neighborhood hotspot Little Dom’s has offered a Thanksgiving to-go program. A full Thanksgiving feast, including pies and sides, can be pre-ordered through Sunday, November 24 and is available for pickup between 9am and noon on Thanksgiving morning. Little Dom’s Pastry Chef Ann Kirk offers four pies, including a Bourbon & Steen’s Pecan Pie, Pumpkin Brown Butter Pie, Apple Pie with oatmeal crumble and a Coconut Cream Pie with cardamom and candied coconut. Call 323-661-0055 to place an order through Sunday, November 24.

Soon to be opened restaurant Red Herring in DTLA has the BEST apple pie around. They’re known for their upscale American comfort food so it’s no surprise there is apple pie on the menu. Chef Dave Woodall makes each pie with pounds of freshly sliced Arkansas Black, Granny Smith and Jonah apples tucked into a buttery flakey rich crust. Available for pre-order only by 11/25 with pick up in Eagle Rock 11/27. They’ll also have traditional pumpkin and pecan as well.

This coffee shop/café in Artesia is know for the housemade bread and baked goods. For the holidays they’re whipping up some decadent holiday favorites for Thanksgiving. Their pecan pie is elevated with the addition of Valrhona chocolate because chocolate makes everything better. Order by Friday November 16th.
