The Best Thanksgiving Pies in LA

It’s that time of year I like to call Pie Season. We enjoy it for Thanksgiving and it finds it’s way into our December holiday feasts as well. This year I thought I would bring you a fun selection of pies that go beyond the classic and traditional pumpkin, apple, and pecan and take things up a notch. These pies are all special in their own way with incredible flavor and a unique spin on the tried and true Thanksgiving pies. I like to think of them as a cure for the common pie!

Pumpkin Ice Box Cake from Magnolia Bakery in West Hollywood

Magnolia Bakery’s Pumpkin Icebox Pie is made with creamy pumpkin cream cheese filling in a gingernap crust with candied pecans. Sold as a 9″ pie for $28. It’s a fun twist to that traditional pumpkin pie. And you can serve it with their signature puddings like banana pudding or their Thanksgiving special pumpkin gingersnap pudding made with pumpkin pudding, gingersnap cookies and bananas. Both flavors are available in a convenient party bowls (small, $38 / medium, $45 / large, $75). As far as I’m concerned you can never have too much pumpkin anything!

Available for advance order and in store for $28-$34. Magnolia Bakery to place an advance order – we’ll be accepting Thanksgiving orders until Monday, November 19.

Valrhona Chocolate Pecan Pie from Bakers and Baristas in Artesia

This coffee shop/café in Artesia is know for the housemade bread and baked goods. Everything we make is from scratch with a strong focus on quality ingredients, seasonality, and shopping at local farmers markets. For the holidays they’re whipping up some decadent holiday favorites for Thanksgiving. Their pecan pie is elevated with the addition of Valrhona chocolate because chocolate makes everything better. Order by Friday November 16th.

Apple Streusel Pie from Proof Bakery in Atwater Village

Proof in Atawater Village is well-known for their French-style pasteries, their croissants in particular are one of the best in LA. Something a lot of Angelenos may not know is that they make a selection of holiday pies that rival their quality pastries and they’re available for pre-order for the holidays! Their streusel topped apple pie rivals the classic crust topped pie with a homemade streusel and using locally grown market farmers market apples to make sure that the flavors deliver. You can taste the quality and difference in the ingredients!

Order by Thursday November 15th

Butterscotch Pudding Pie from Cake Monkey Bakery

Lisa Olin & Pastry Chef Elizabeth Belkind’s acclaimed LA-based bakery & brand opened their second shop in Westlake Village Friday, 8/31. Known for their whimsical, updated takes on nostalgic childhood snack treats (think Ding Dongs, Hos Hos, and the like), the duo will offer cakes, pies, mini layer cakes, pastries, and said snack treats — along with new breakfast and lunch items unique to the new location (like a housemade, Chocolate Hazelnut Babka French Toast). But more importantly they make some of the BEST pies in Los Angeles. Why not opt for something fun like a Butterscotch Pudding Pie instead of the old classic flavors. It’s available Gluten Free too!
