Sweetening up this NCAA Basketball season with a super simple slam dunk treat (see what I did there? hehe) that is sure to make your game day party a fan favorite. Using Coca-Cola Zero™  and OREO I made an OREO ice cream Coke Zero float. To make things even sweeter I got some basketball stickers, plain wooden spoons and colorful straws to give the floats a cute themed extra touch.

OREO ice cream hack

To make your ice cream you can start from scratch OR do what I love to do in a pinch and add OREOS to your favorite ice cream. The key here will be to temper the ice cream so you can mix-in the OREOS. You should take your ice cream out of the freezer and put it into the refrigerator until it is thawed partially. Then take your desired amount of OREOS, crush them and add them into the ice cream. Give it a good mix and put it back into the freezer until you are ready to scoop it into your mini basketballs.

For your ice cream float spoons you start with plain wooden spoons. Place washer tape or scotch tape across it diagonally creating stripes. You then paint your desired color in between the pieces of tape. I choose green and orange for this basketball party to match my multicolored pennant place setting. Allow the paint to cool for a few minutes and carefully remove the tape. Voila! You have cute striped spoons! For added flair I used small basketball stickers to decorate the ends of the spoons.

Decorative basketball straws are so simple to put together. And since we are working with stickers, no hot glue gun necessary. You can go to any craft or scrapbook store and find basketball stickers. I chose a pack that had things other than basketballs like hoops and jerseys. Simply add the sticker to the straw towards the top so it doesn’t fall into the float. To make sure it is secure affix it the the straw with clear scotch tape in the front of back of the sticker vertically along the straw. Then cut the straw to your desired length depending on the serving dish you are using. And there you have it, super easy DIY basketball party trays! Party time!

I picked up Coke Zero at my local Vons in the soft drinks aisle. They have these cute basketball inspired boxes right not, which is just in line with my basketball party!

Well almost, we have to add the key ingredient to our OREO ice cream float – the Coke ZERO. I used a melon baller to create my OREO ice cream baskeballs and scoop them into a clear glass dessert dish. TIP: I prefer to use a smaller scoop to fit in multiple scoops versus one large scoop because it is easier to enjoy within the float and makes for a better picture (I did it for the insta!) because the ice cream doesn’t get completely buried under the Coke Zero. Be careful when adding your coke as this will quickly foam so add less than you think slowly. Fill to the top. Stick in your straw. Watch the game with your friends. Enjoy!
